Description ADEA aims to harmonize the education management infomation systems on the African continent through regionally adapted frameworks on EMIS norms and standards. A key data innovation of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) is the strategy of harmonizing Education Management Information Systems (EMIS) across Africa through regionally customized frameworks on EMIS Norms and Standards. This initiative, which falls under the African Union’s EMIS strategy, used country representatives in Ministries of Education to develop monitoring standards for each norm, covering the areas of appropriate policy, resourcing levels, statistical methodologies and dissemination strategies. To date SADC, ECOWAS and EAC Ministers of Education have endorsed their regional EMIS Norms and Standards frameworks and country compliance with these norms are in process. This data strategy should see African countries significantly strengthening their national EMIS as well as empowering them to use their neighbor countries to support their capacity building in this regard.
