Description Real-time biosurveillance program pilot tested in India & Sri Lanka for 2 years: The system digitizes all patient clinical records using a java based mHealthSurvey mobile application (data is digitized and submitted by local nurses or recruited data entry assistants), which is in the order of 100 records per day per health facility. The daily accumulated data is analyzed by epidemiologists using time series and spatio-temporal statistical algorithms. The probable disease outbreaks are visualized through the T-Cube Web Interface. Detected adverse events are then disseminated to medical officer, health inspectors, and nurses in the form of SMS, Email, and Web using the Sahana Alerting Broker. We been able to detect and inform of escalating diseases of Chickenpox, Dengue, Acute Diarrheal Disease, Respiratory Tract Infections, Viral Fevers in India and Sri Lanka.

Case Study Description A research team of LIRNEasia, led by Vinya Ariyaratne, piloted a Real-time Biosurveillance Program (RTBP) in India and Sri Lanka for 2 years. The system digitized all patient clinical records using a java based mHealthSurvey mobile application (data is digitized and submitted by local nurses or recruited data entry assistants) in the order of 100 records per day per health facility.
